SHYA – Singing Heart Young Adults. A project for 16 – 26 year olds from nearby villages. This group meets at the Ashram for 1 day and evening programs that include teachings on subjects relevant for young adults: e.g. family life and relationships, how to deal with difficult emotions, integrating the best of the old and new here in India, building bridges between village and town life. There is also time for discussion groups, deep meditation sittings with instruction when needed, music and dance, blessings.
Donations are always welcome. You can either donate directly to the ashram if you are in India or contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Originally the children who benefited from SHIC came from the nearby village and were helped with school fees, English tuition, a teacher to help with general tuition and homework in the evenings, medical expenses, clothing. Outings were also arranged and visits to the ashram.
Young ones from villages are usually at a disadvantage when starting school – town and city children often learn to read, write and recognize numbers at an early age. They tend to receive more support from the family, whereas village families must work very hard on the land and the adults do not have much education.
Projects sponsored today by SHIC:
- Tuition and help with homework for village children.
- School fees for poor children.
- Medical expenses for poor children.

- Poonthalir. Poonthalir means the first leaf of a seed – the first spire of a plant. Below you can read more below about this special project.
Poonthalir is under the care of a charitable organisation called Terre des Hommes – see website: www.tdhcore.org Chezhian, who is director of Terre des Hommes in India, has been working with this fine project: to help stop the killing of girl babies. This project happens in Salem – a town in Tamil Nadu where the killing of girl babies has been widespread. Terre des Hommes has many children’s homes around Tamil Nadu including several here in Tiruvannamalai.
Donations to SHIC are always welcome. You can either donate directly to the ashram if you are in India or contact: email@example.com

It will, as usual, be held as a meditation retreat and there will be teachings, discussions, breath work, dancing, open Satsang. We will be in silence for about 3 days. Jaro will join us and sing and play guitar. Perhaps Anne-Louise joins us for the final day.
Tobe and Thongriela just mailed me that the cost for room and food will be as usual: just Swedish crowns 450 per 24 hours – beautiful. Thank you dear Tobe and Thongriela.
Leela doesn’t officially exist now so we go there as their friends.
Payment to me is by donation. You will as usual receive an envelope without name but please remember I have an ashram in India with salaries to pay even when I’m not there.
There are not so many places left and we might end up with a waiting list so please book via Arjuna only if you really intend to come: email@example.com
Participants should bring their own bed linen and towels. (It is also possible to rent a set.) Blankets, quilts and pillows are available in all rooms. Participants should also clean up their rooms after the retreat is finished.

Please have everything ready on arrival. In the past people have shown up without photographs and photocopies and this has caused much extra work for the staff and difficulties for us with the authorities.
If you need a letter of welcome from your first place of stay in India to obtain a visa for India let Arjuna know and he will give you details. If you visit somewhere else before coming to Singing Heart then the place you visit first must provide you with a letter.
Important that you do NOT write Singing Heart Ashram on your visa application or on arrival at the airport. All ashram activities come under the Singing Heart Guesthouse.
Please write: Singing Heart Guesthouse.

Danish people please check the rules carefully before applying for a visa as they are quite strict!
Pongal celebrations: 14th – 16th January
The ashram will not provide lunch and dinner as the workers have been promised they do not have to work during Pongal. As you may know Pongal is the biggest celebration in Tamil Nadu – like Christmas, new year and birthday all rolled into one! People enjoy to go into the town and see the Pongal decorations. Especially beautiful to see are the rangoli: colorful and often intricate patterns made with chalk outside of houses and other buildings.
